Volkswagen je nemecká automobilová spoločnosť, ktorá vznikla v roku 1937 vo Wolfsburgu, kde má dodnes sídlo. V automobilovom priemysle patrí medzi najväčších zamestnávateľov. K minulému roku zamestnával 668 tisíc zamestnancov. Do ich koncernu patria značky ako sú Audi, česká Škoda, Bentley, Seat, Porsche, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Man, Ducati a Scania. Volkswagen je majoritným akcionárom spoločnosti Porsche, práve pri vstupe spoločnosti na burzu predávali časť svojich akcií, za ktoré získali 19,5 mld. eur. Tieto finančné prostriedky, ktoré získali plánujú použiť v rámci koncernu na rozvoj elektromobility a časť finančných prostriedkov plánujú prerozdeliť medzi akcionárov formou výnimočnej dividendy. Toto prerozdeľovanie dividendy by mali schvaľovať na valnom zhromaždení, ktoré sa má uskutočniť 16. decembra tohto roku, s tým, že rozhodujúci deň (deň, v rámci ktorého ak bude mať akcionár akcie nakúpené, má nárok na dividendu) má byť 6. januára 2023 a výplatný deň je stanovený na 9. január 2023.
